Hi everyone! Sorry I've been missing from Smarty Sunday for a few weeks! Between Apollo's Blogathon and Mama's being under the weather, I haven't had a chance to get my little paws typing! But I have something pretty cool to show you, this week.
Mama went to the Chicagoland Pet Expo, and she saw some really talented cats! The Amazing Acro-Cats put on a show where a group of kitties did all sorts of tricks! They did tricks like climb things, walk on high places, jump up and down, ring bells, go bowling, and push each other around in shopping carts. The cool thing was that they were all things that the kitties did naturally... but their trainer, Samantha, had figured out ways of getting them to do things on command! (Well... maybe kitties don't naturally balance on balls or push each other around in shopping carts. But they didn't seem to mind it much!)
One of the basic things the kitties did was run into their carrier every time they heard a whistle. Samantha said this was an important thing for all kitties to learn. Imagine if your house is on fire, and instead of running around frantically searching for your kitty, who might be hiding, all you have to do is blow a whistle and the kitty runs into his carrier!
She also said that the biggest difference between training cats and training dogs was that dogs will work because they want to please you, but cats want to get paid every single time! So, if you are training cats, you have to have lots of delicious treats ready at all times.
Want to know something else these cool cats did? They had their own rock band! There was a cat playing the guitar, a cat playing the drums, a cat playing the cow bell... and a chicken playing the tambourine.
Yes, I said a chicken playing the tambourine! The chicken also bowls, by the way. And he usually beats the cats.
One more awesome thing about these cats? Most of them came from shelters or rescue organizations. Samantha continues to foster cats and kittens who are in need of forever homes. She teaches the foster cats tricks, too, to make them more adoptable. Sometimes a foster cat gets along so well with the rest of the group, it becomes part of the show!
You should check out their website, Amazing Animals By Samantha. They live in Chicago (like us!!!) but they travel around to different states, and their shows are very inexpensive. Besides the cat shows, they have other programs, including a reptile show, and they will perform at birthday parties, schools, and other gatherings. So, check out the site and see if they're coming to your town anytime soon!
Did you like that Smarty Sunday? Now excuse me while I go push Lily around in a shopping cart. (LOL! As if!)

We Won Some Stuff!
Hi everyone! This is Trixie, taking over the blog for the day. You all know we love to have raffles and giveaways so we can send cool things to our friends. But we also love to enter giveaways... and sometimes we win! We wanted to show you a few of the things we've won lately.
The reason I'm taking over the blog for this post is because the latest thing we won, Mama decided to give to me! She said Lily gets too much attention sometimes and I deserve something special. So, when the people at Richmond Pet Lovers said we won a Buckle Down Collar, Mama said it was all mine!
Its called a Buckle Down Collar, by the way, because it is made from the tough nylon material seatbelts are made from, and the clasp is actually a tiny seatbelt buckle. See?
Love, Trixie

Here is another view. They have all sorts of designs, but we picked the one with lots of rainbow peace signs, because we are hippies at heart! :)
They sent us a matching leash, too! Mama didn't take a picture of the leash because when I was wearing it I kept jumping around like a maniac and she couldn't get the picture. But it is a leash that looks just like the collar! I will be so stylish on my next walk! Thanks, Richmond Pet Lovers and Buckle-Down!
Now. What else did we win? First of all, a looong time ago, back in January I think, we won this cool bumper sticker set from Oz The Terrier. It has an angry looking dog on it and it says BARK OFF! Oz designed it himself! Ingenius, right? One is actually a sticker, and the other is a strong magnet. Thank you, Oz!
Next... Kritters That Twitter had a huge Valentines Day party and gave away a ton of stuff. And we won these cute kitty figurines from Lenox! Mama loves little nick-nacks like that, and the kitties now have a place of honor in her room. We won them by commenting on what we would name the kitties. We said we'd name one Sammy-Joe (after Sammy-Joe, of course) and one Trouble after a kitty Mama fostered when she lived in Colorado. Check out the cute kitties!
Last but not least... we participated in our first Paw Pawty on Valentines weekend. The Paw Pawty had some games where you had to answer questions by looking at different websites. We played, and we won something! We won a book called Carl's Snowy Afternoon. Its a children's book! Carl is a rottweiler who has a whole series of books about him. In his books, he's always going on adventures with Madeleine, his human toddler sister. Mama thinks Madeleine's parents are just a little negligent because they are always going off and leaving Carl in charge of the baby, which Mama says is actually illegal. You can't use a dog as a babysitter, no matter how smart the dog is! Madeleine's parents may have figured this out, because in Carl's Snowy Day they do hire a babysitter... but the babysitter just watches TV, so Carl ends up taking care of the baby anyway! (LOL... I am just joking! Some people really do think the Carl books are bad because they show the parents "neglecting" their baby. We are pretty sure the real-life Carl doesn't have so much babysitting responsibilities, although we hear that he loves children and visits kids in hospitals and stuff as a therapy doggie!) Anyway, this book is going to be special. Mama is studying to be a special education teacher someday, and she is going to put this book in her classroom library for the children to read! (She's already building up a classroom library. Her teachers say this is very important, so when she goes out on job interviews, she can tell them about all the preparation she's already done.) Anyway, here is me, lying very nicely next to Carl's Snowy Day. I was napping when Mama wanted to take this picture, so she tried to get Lily to sit by it... but Lily was afraid of it! What kind of dog is afraid of a book? Well, maybe because the book is just as tall as Lily is. So Mama woke me up from my nap, and I did a great job lying next to Carl!
Anyway... if you would like to go to a Paw Pawty, we hear there is one happening this weekend. We can't go, because Mama has to go to Auntie Etta's funeral, and then she is sleeping over at her other aunt's house with her little cousins and won't be back until Sunday afternoon. But maybe you can go and have fun!
See ya soon!

Stopping In To Say Hello
Hi everyone! Its been a week since we blogged so we wanted to say hello! Next week we promise we'll be back in the swing of things. Its just been a ROUGH week!
But Mama said she wants to say thank you to the FIFTY pets and people who commented or emailed to cheer her up and check on us! It really lifted Mama's spirits. It meant so much to us that we've made such good friends in the pet blogosphere. Even people we didn't even know were stopping to wish us well! The blogosphere is an amazing thing, isn't it? We love being a part of it. And we wanted to thank all of our friends SO MUCH for reaching out to us.
The good news is, Gramma and Grampa are back from their vacation in Arizona. Grampa brought Mama home a weird lollipop. It has an actual dead scorpion inside of it! Gramma told Mama to throw it away, but Mama wants to keep it... although she is not sure she will ever eat it!
The bad news is, yesterday Mama's great-aunt, Auntie Etta, passed away. She had been sick for a long time and in a lot of pain, and basically made the decision for no more life saving measures to be done. Mama hadn't seen her a lot in recent years, but used to see her a lot when she was little. When Mama was a baby, Auntie Etta knitted her a W blanket, which Mama treasured, slept with, and carried around with her 24/7 for her entire childhood. In fact, Mama still has it on her bed! Want to see?
Auntie Etta also knitted W blankets for Mama's little brother, and for some of Mama's little cousins... although probably the youngest batch of cousins didn't get W blankets since Auntie Etta didn't have the energy to knit them any more.
She also really closely helped raise two of Mama's cousins who were her grandkids. Those kids are in their 20's now and one has a baby of her own, but they are having a really hard time dealing with it since they were so close to her.
So anyway all of that is not helping with Mama's sadness issues, even though Gramma and Grampa are back, because now she is just thinking about how easy it is to lose the ones you love.
But she is doing much better and feels bad about neglecting our blog for so long. We're going to try to go visit all of your blogs today, too! We can't wait!
Thanks again for all your love, kind words, and support.
Love,
Trixie, Lily, Sammy-Joe, and Mama.

Outlook not so good
Our Mama is having a terrible time and can't stop crying. Its cuz Gramma and Grampa went on vacation and Mama is suppose to be guarding the house. She does it all the time but this time she's just feeling so sad and crying crying crying and even we can't make her feel better! And they're going to be gone for days and days and days. Mama knows they deserve a vacation, but she's so sad and lonely and sick and we don't know how to help her get through all these days! She's got some medicines she can take to help her feel better but they make her go to sleep, and if she takes them now she won't be able to take us for our walkies or give us dinner or anything else. If she cries anymore today it will flood the house! Everyone please send our Mama happy thoughts and prayers PLEASE!
Love,
Trixie, Lily and Sammy-Joe
P.S. Sammy-Joe had a great Smarty Sunday for tomorrow but we think Mama might not be able to help him write it today. We'll see though!

Lazy Spring Afternoons
Finally the weather is starting to get nicer where we live. Mama can actually go outside without putting on a hat and heavy coat! That means we get to spend more time outside.
There is something about a spring afternoon that makes you just want to stretch out in the sun.
And me and Lily aren't the only ones who think so!
After we went inside, look who we spotted out the window!

Petfinder Wants You To Adopt The Internet Today!
ANNOUNCEMENT: DON'T FORGET TO GET YOUR RAFFLE TICKETS AND PICK OUT YOUR PRIZES! WINNERS WILL BE DRAWN TOMORROW MORNING!!!
Hi everyone! Today we're helping Petfinder.com to Adopt The Internet! We wanted to introduce you to Lacey, a dog we found in the Adopt The Internet Gallery. It was really hard to pick a dog to introduce you to... but we chose Lacey because she reminded us of Trixie.
You see, in the picture Lacey is nursing her little puppies. Just like Trixie, she was found alone and abandoned. She was pregnant when she was found. (Trixie was found with her puppies.) Her seven adorable puppies quickly got adopted... just like Trixie's puppies. And, like Trixie was, Lacey is still waiting patiently for her turn to get adopted!
Lacey lives in a foster home in West Richland, WA, right now. She is a small Doxie mix, who loves people, including children, and loves other dogs as well. Do you want Lacey to be your doggie? Email her rescue organization for more information!
Good luck, Lacey! We hope you get adopted soon!

When You Need An ICBC Lawyer
Here's an announcement for any readers who may live in the Vancouver/BC area. (In case you are not familiar with ICBC, it is British Columbia's universal public auto insurance program.) Many people who are covered by ICBC are told that, if they get into an accident, they should report it to ICBC immediately. But your best bet is to call an ICBC lawyer first. A lawyer can help you navigate the system in order to get the settlement you have coming. The Tell Del team is a team of lawyers who are experts at getting through the red tape in these situations. If you use ICBC, here is a great idea. Copy down the contact information for Tell Del, and keep it in your car with your insurance information, so you can call them right away if you need to. Your first consultation with them will be free.
Good luck, and drive safely!

Two KONG Toys!
We have another prize donation for you! Our friend Sandra, our friend from KONG, has sent us two toys to raffle off.
The first one is a classic KONG toy, which dispenses treats as your dog plays with it.
The first one is a classic KONG toy, which dispenses treats as your dog plays with it.
The second toy is a Wobbler! It looks like a giant KONG. But instead of being held and chewed on by dogs, it stands up right and wobbles like a Weeble! Like the classic KONG, it dispenses treats when your dog paws at it or noses it.
If you spend your raffle ticket here, you can win one of each!
And if you'd like to learn more about KONG, you can visit their website, "like" them on Facebook, or follow them on Twitter. Ready to get some raffle tickets? Day EIGHTof Apollo's Blogathon!
Hi everyone! We're so excited... Today is the last day of displaying the raffle prizes. Tomorrow, Sunday and Monday, you will be able to come decide what you want to spend your tickets on! (Don't worry. We'll show you how.)
Now... this is kind of weird but... the two prizes we have today are actually MIA. They haven't been mailed to us yet. So we cannot really show them to you or review them. But they will be here!
Now, for our final music selection, we thought we'd show you something by one of our favorite dogs. (Yeah, its a Christmas song... but we still love it!)
I love my Pawbreakers!!!
Hi everyone! Its Sammy-Joe! My new bestest friend Brett from Edible Animal Treats sent me an awesome Pawbreaker to try out. Have you ever heard of one before? Its an amazing invention. It is catnip... that rolls! Its like a ping-pong sized ball of solid catnip. OMG, have you ever heard of anything better? (Hey, if you were going to visit the Pawbreaker link, scroll to the bottom of the page. See that gray cat holding a Pawbreaker? That is not me. But doesn't it look like me????)
I love my new Pawbreaker very, very much. Mama took it away for now because she doesn't want me to have it all the time when she's not watching me... she's afraid I'll get too loopy and fall off the counter again or knock down the garbage can again. (These are things I have done, ashamedly, under the influence of 'nip!) But she said she will give it to me to play with again later!
Want to see how much fun I had with my Pawbreaker?
Here is Mama giving me the Pawbreaker.
And here is me enjoying my Pawbreaker!
My beautiful Pawbreaker, I cannot wait to see you again!
Brett also sent some for us to raffle off to you friends! Mama said we could put some in the cat toy packages from Penn-Plax. But if you spend a raffle ticket here, you could also win four Pawbreakers of your own! We can have two winners. So, when you see the list on March 13 through March 15, look for "Pawbreakers!"
Ready to get some raffle tickets? Each $1.00 that you donate to Apollo, using our ChipIn widget, will equal one raffle ticket. Lots Of Toys from Kyjen!
We have made so many great new friends during this blogathon! Our newest friend, Lauren from Kyjen sent us a big box of doggie toys! We got to try out a few of them, and the rest were for us to raffle off to you.
Want to see the things we got to try?
First there was this Hide-A Squirrel Puzzle Plush. Your human is supposed to hide the little squeaky squirrels inside the tree trunk. Then you are supposed to figure out how to get the squirrels out!
Lily loved playing with this toy! The directions said that Mama should rub the squirrels on herself to get them to smell like her, but Mama didn't even have to do that. All Lily had to know was that something in there squeaked! Lily dragged the tree around and worked at getting the squirrels out. Finally she realized that if she picked up the trunk and shook it crazily, the squirrel would come flying out! (Mama tried to take pictures of this, but they came out all blurry because of course Lily never stops moving.) Lily was so proud when she finally got those squirrels!
The next thing we played with was the Real Animal Squeaker Mat!
Boy, was it big! It was longer than Lily!
And it had so many squeakers in it. It had at a whole bunch of squeakers in the body, and a really loud, funny sounding squeaker in the tail!
We both loved playing with it. And, in fact, it was so big, we could both play with it at the same time!
Finally, Mama gave us a toy that would enhance our brains. She gave us a Paw Hide Dog Puzzle!
The way it works is, Mama takes the cups out, puts treats in them, and then puts them back. We have to try to figure out how to pick up the cups to get the treats out!
We had a lot of trouble with this. We are just spoiled dogs who are used to having Mama help us. After a few minutes of sniffing like crazy at the toy, we just laid down and stared at Mama.
So, she tried something else. She replaced the cups upside down, so they'd be easier for us to knock out of the puzzle. This gave us a better idea of what we were supposed to do! After a few tries of doing it that way, we were ready to try it the right way again. Did you ever think a dog could play with a puzzle?
Now, we are raffling off each of these three toys... plus, a whole bunch of extra toys! Check out the raffle packages, so you know what to look for on the list on March 13 through 15.
Kyjen Hide-A-Squirrel Package: Comes with 1 Hide-A-Squirrel Puzzle Plush, plus a Real Animal Squirrel Squeaker Mat, plus a Bottle Buddy Pig.
Paw Hide Puzzle Packages: Comes with 1 Paw Hide Puzzle, plus a 6-squeak Invincible toy, plus a Squeaky Squiggler Sea Monster.
Finally, the Real Animal Fox Package: Comes with 1 Real Animal Fox Squeaker Mat, plus a Hard Boiled Softie Penguin.
Those are going to be three really lucky raffle winners! (Our Mama had to hide all of those extra toys from us because we get all excited when we see toys, and we start crying and whining when we realize she's not giving them to us!!!)
