South Shore Platform Beds

Have you ever heard of a South Shore Platform Bed? You may not have heard of it, but you've probably seen one! Instead of having your bed raised up on legs and a board, there is a solid platform with a mattress on top of it. Sometimes the platforms include storage areas.

The maker of this type of bed, South Shore Furniture Industries, is a company with a history! It all began in 1940, when Eugene Laflamme bought a bankrupt toy company. He decided to expand the company a little by including kitchen tables and chairs. In 1952, they added bedroom furniture. Not only did they have South Shore Platform Beds, but also things such as night stands,  desks, dressers, mirrors and armoires.

Eugene Laflamme's son Guy took over in 1970. He had a very businesslike mind, and expanded the company like never before! In 1999, he was able to pass his position on to yet another Laflamme, Jean Laflamme.

Isn't that a great story about a successful, thriving family business?

The removal of the foundation and the lower legs of the bed make it sit very close to the floor and gives it a much more compact look.
